Have you ever passed up a piece of furniture because it was damaged? Well, don’t! This is a great guide for quick and easy furniture repair. Whether its chipped veneer or a chunk of wood missing from a damaged piece, furniture repair does not have to be intimidating or even a long process. This piece has quite a bit of chipping veneer on it, so I will be using the products listed above to fix this problem and smooth out the front of the drawer. After this is done you will have no idea it was ever damaged.
This is the part where we take our gloves, spatula, JB Weld and piece of wood. You will want to mix the JB Weld together with the spatula on the piece of wood. This wood repair compound is great for furniture repair and is super easy to use. Be careful though, it is smelly so make sure you are in a ventilated area. Also it sets very fast once you mix the compound in to can with a little bit of the hardener tha comes in the white tube, you need to work fast.
Once you have spread the compound on like icing a cake or mudding drywall, let it sit. after about 20 minutes or so it is safe to sand. First I sand with an orbital sander with an 80 grit paper. Then I will smooth it out more with a 120 grit sand paper disc. These wood filling compounds are not stainable so you will have to paint this piece. The following is the finished product. I used a texture medium on it after I completed the furniture repair. But do you see how you would have never known that the veneer was badly chipped and damaged? The following is a walk-through video of how to repair the veneer.
